From Little Hands, Blossoms Grow
Mixed Media on Canvas | 30 × 30 cm (11.8 × 11.8 in) 2026
Soft almond blossoms, playful abstract marks and touches of gold come together in a painting that began with my granddaughter Emma.
From Little Hands, Blossoms Grow features pale pink almond blossoms against a layered background of rose and mauve. Slender branches curve across the canvas, surrounded by scattered petals, splashes of colour and golden accents.
This painting started with a piece Emma made. Her spontaneous colours and abstract marks gave me a background to work with, and I gradually developed the composition using acrylic, oils and alcohol inks. Parts of her work remain visible, woven into the finished painting.
I love that it holds something of us both—Emma’s freedom to play with colour and my love of almond blossoms. Building on her creativity made this a particularly special piece to paint.
With its warm colours and small square format, this painting would bring a personal touch to a bedroom, reading corner or gallery wall.
