Hello, I’m Teresa.

I began painting at 52, inspired by a visit to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. There, I discovered how art could be both refuge and renewal — a way to heal, to explore, and to let light through.

My Story

I’ve lived across continents — born and raised in South Africa, later moving to Angola, Portugal, the Netherlands, and now Switzerland. Each place has left its mark on me: the vast African landscapes, the Mediterranean warmth, the Dutch gardens alive with colour, the Swiss mountains and rivers. Travel and new surroundings have always inspired me, shaping how I see light, colour, and atmosphere.

My first painting, Summer Forest, was created while we were living in the Netherlands. People told me it reminded them of the Keukenhof gardens — a place overflowing with bloom — and I realised how much light art can bring into a moment.

When we later moved to Switzerland, I set aside my brushes for a time. Life was heavy, and I wasn’t sure if I would return to painting. But one day, standing by the bridge in Brugg, I chose to start again. That painting, Cityscape Brugg over Aare, became a personal turning point — a decision to let my light shine again, even after silence and doubt. My second work since then, Red Deer, feels deeply rooted in the Swiss landscape, carrying with it both strength and grace.

Looking back, I now see how even my earlier works were milestones — calm and colourful reflections of the environments I was living in at the time. For me, painting is about noticing beauty, reflecting God’s creation, and remembering that we also carry His creative DNA within us.

Each canvas is both calming and joyful to create — an offering of light, a reminder to pause, to breathe, and to notice beauty in unexpected places. I’ve learned not to let the words of others dim my light, and through my art, I hope to encourage others to also let their light shine.

Milestones

  • Netherlands — beginnings (2024): First painting, Summer Forest, inspired by Dutch gardens.

  • Brugg, Switzerland — renewal (June 2025): Painted Cityscape Brugg over Aare, choosing again to let my light shine.

  • Today (2025): Works like Red Deer reflect my evolving style, blending nature and story with a sense of calm suited to Swiss interiors.

My Approach & Materials

I paint primarily on canvas, working in layers of acrylics, oils, or a combination of both. Each piece develops slowly, allowing colour and atmosphere to emerge with depth and nuance. I often explore contrasts of light and strength — a forest glowing at dusk, water shimmering in quiet stillness, or forms that hold both fragility and resilience.

To ensure longevity, I use professional, archival-grade pigments such as Gamblin oils and artist-quality acrylics. Each painting is sealed with a UV-protective varnish, safeguarding it from light and dust so it can be enjoyed for generations. Originals are carefully packaged, shipped tracked and insured from Switzerland.

Every artwork is accompanied by a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity, embossed with my artist’s stamp and including a poetic description of the piece — a personal mark of origin and care for collectors.

An Invitation

For me, creativity isn’t about perfection or comparison — it’s about courage. The simple act of picking up a brush and letting something new take shape has been transformational in my own life.

I hope that my paintings bless others in the same way. Each piece carries its own voice, and I believe it will speak to the one it was meant for — that moment of knowing, this is mine, I was meant to have it.

From my brush to your home, may these works bring peace, beauty, and the reminder to let your light shine.

With love,
Teresa
